Issues That Matter

Where Michael D. Perkins stands on the issues facing ME voters.

Lowering the Cost of Living

Maine families are being squeezed by rising prices, high property taxes, and an energy cost crisis. Michael believes government should reduce the burden on working people, not add to it.

From heating oil to groceries to property tax bills, the cost of living in Maine has become unsustainable for too many families in District 66. Michael will fight to cut unnecessary state spending, oppose tax increases that hit working Mainers hardest, and push for energy policies that bring down utility costs. He supports reviewing and reducing burdensome regulations that drive up prices for consumers and small businesses alike.

Supporting Small Businesses

Small businesses are the backbone of Maine's local economy and they deserve a representative who will reduce red tape, lower their tax burden, and let them thrive.

Maine's small business owners face an uphill battle navigating state regulations, licensing requirements, and tax obligations that larger corporations can absorb but local shops cannot. Michael will advocate for streamlining permitting processes, opposing unnecessary mandates, and creating a business-friendly environment in Augusta that keeps jobs and investment in District 66 rather than pushing them out of state.

Protecting Public Safety

Maine communities deserve safe streets and strong support for the law enforcement officers and first responders who protect them. Michael stands firmly behind the men and women in uniform.

Michael believes that public safety is a core function of government and that Maine should fully support its law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency responders. He opposes efforts to defund or undermine police departments and will work to ensure that District 66 communities have the resources they need to keep families safe. He also supports the constitutional right of law-abiding Mainers to keep and bear arms.

Restoring Parental Rights in Education

Parents — not bureaucrats — should have the final say in how their children are educated. Michael supports school choice, transparency in curricula, and keeping politics out of the classroom.

Michael is committed to ensuring that Maine's education system puts students first and keeps parents informed and empowered. He supports expanding school choice options so families are not trapped in underperforming schools, requiring full transparency in what is being taught in public classrooms, and ending the use of taxpayer dollars for ideologically driven programs that do not serve students' academic needs. Every child in District 66 deserves a quality education.

Fiscal Responsibility in Augusta

Maine state government must live within its means. Michael will oppose wasteful spending, demand budget accountability, and protect taxpayers from being asked to fund government bloat.

The state budget should reflect the priorities of Maine people, not the wishes of Augusta insiders. Michael will scrutinize every spending proposal, vote against budgets that grow government without measurable results, and push for regular audits of state programs. He believes that a dollar saved in Augusta is a dollar that stays in the pockets of District 66 families and small businesses who earned it.

Preserving Maine's Rural Way of Life

Maine's forests, farms, and fishing communities are part of our identity. Michael will defend the rights of rural Mainers to work the land, hunt, fish, and live free from government overreach.

Too many policies coming out of Augusta treat rural Maine as an afterthought or, worse, as a problem to be managed. Michael will stand up for the loggers, farmers, hunters, and fishermen who define the character of communities like those in District 66. He opposes overreaching environmental regulations that kill jobs without meaningful benefit and will fight to ensure that rural Mainers have a strong, respected voice in the State House.
